School Placement Project

Over my eight-week and ten-week school placements, I employed my programme experience to become more actively involved in the activities of the school community, with the assistance and supervision of the cooperating teachers. Through these placements, I grew increasingly knowledgeable of teachers' duties and responsibilities, as well as the overall social and moral issues involved in a school's learning community. Furthermore, I was able to expand on earlier learning throughout this term of situational learning to further strengthen reflective skills to theorise practice in action while delivering unique projects to the students. During the second placement, I conducted a qualitative investigation of creative curriculum innovations integrating collaborative project-based learning and digital media and technologies in art and design education through an action research project.

St. Clement's College, South Circular Road, Limerick

My initial school placement was at St. Clement's College, an all-boys school in Limerick City. During the placement, I taught three groups of students: first, transition year, and fifth year, who delivered various types of work such as still-life drawings and paintings, self-portrait collages, and landscape paintings. They additionally have an online exhibition in collaboration with Laurel Hill Secondary School FCJ.

Thomond Community College, Moylish, Limerick

My second school placement was at Thomond Community College, a mixed-gender school in Limerick City's suburbs. During the placement, I was assigned to three groups of first-year students and two groups of second-year students, to whom I delivered projects such as landscape paintings and prints, and shoe sculptures. Before Christmas, the first years have an exhibition at school.
