ARTIST

“If something in you yourself says you aren’t a painter – it's then that you should paint, old chap and that voice will be silenced too.” – Vincent van Gogh (quote used in Van Gogh Exhibition at Palazzo Bonaparte, Rome, Italy)

As an artist, I’m continuously exploring the different cultures to explore emotions in my work. The process of creating work is influenced by a deep curiosity and desire to push the boundaries of traditional painting. I take the opportunity in the process of creating painting to experiment the materials, forms, styles and techniques. Yet, I see my work as a reflection of my personal experiences and emotions, as well as an exploration of defining myself as an individual. My goal as an artist is to inspire myself and the audiences to engage art in new and different viewpoints.

Teacher

TEACHER

“Artist teachers spoke of connecting disparate ideas a sense of freedom and time to engage in one’s own work, leading greater authenticity to increasing challenges and risks for their own students having engaged in these processes themselves” – Hall, J (2010, p. 10)

My philosophy as an artist-teacher is to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all learners feel valued and inspired to reach their full potential. Meanwhile, this idea could encourage the learners to explore new knowledge independently and collaboratively which encourages them to actively engage and expression in their process of learning. I believe that the learners can broaden their knowledge by exploring and experimenting with the materials, forms, and techniques which could have a positive impact in developing their abilities in critical thinking and solving problems. At the same time, teaching strategies such as providing feedback, and formative and summative assessments can guide both teachers and students to communicate and learn from each other. My goal of being a teacher is to build their confidence to integrate their knowledge and interest along with their creativity into the various skills in art, craft and design.

Research

RESEARCHER

“Artist teachers need to develop skills of negotiation through which they can articulate and continuously reappraise their art practice and, at an appropriate stage, use that practice to inform their teaching; reflective practice could provide an appropriate framework for realizing and sustaining the artist-teacher identity” – Thornton (2005)

As a researcher, I was enthusiastic about the relationships between visual art and education. I'm interested in how creative practices could potentially be used to advance equity and empower underprivileged communities. My concept is based on an ongoing commitment to critical pedagogy, which emphasises the importance of creating a learning environment that responds to students' needs and experiences. Through the projects, I intend to develop environments where learners can explore and express their ideas while also working to effect beneficial improvements in their communities. I believe that art can be an effective tool for fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills to improve students' interest and motivation in their learning process, and my research aims to develop strategies for student-centred learning for integrating art into educational environments in meaningful and beneficial ways.
